An outstanding Egyptian panel from a Book of the Dead

An outstanding Egyptian panel from a Book of the Dead, Late Period - Ptolemaic, c. 664 - 30 BC, featuring a central vignette depicting the deceased standing before Osiris, holding a jar with offerings, additional offerings piled atop the table between them. The scene is beautifully drawn and then painted with ten vertical columns of hieroglyphic text above them bordered by red lines; all within a red linear square. To either side are two blocks of hieratic text and two far right are two deities in solar barques, one the falcon-headed Ra with solar disk and ankh. 36 x 12 in(91.2 x 30.4 cm). A lovely example of a very important part of the Egyptian funerary kit. Within a long rectangular frame. Ex Hamdy Sakr collection; previously in the private collection of Alex Anckonie III, acquired during his time in the Navy in the 1960's - 1970's.
