Each main side outlined in black overlay with an oval panel separated by faux lion mask-and-ring handles on the narrow sides, one panel painted with a retreat compound nestled amongst trees by a river and surrounded by mountains, the upper right with a short dedication inscription, singed Rongjiu, with two seals, the reverse panel decorated with the emaciated figure Lin Daiyu holding her flower basket under an old pine tree.
