Three-dimensional bronze cast after the antique marble group in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. Dark to dark-green patina. On a rectangular mahogany pedestal of later date. This group of figures attained widespread fame due to Giovanni da Bologna (* 1529 Douai, †1608 Florence), real name Jean de Boulogne, known as Giambologna. His protégé Giovanni Francesco Susini (*1585 Florence, †1653) also explored this theme. Prominent works can still be found in many prestigious museums around the world. Signs of age, traces of oxidation. Minor knocks in the plinth. Dimensions 10 x 17 x 12 cm.
Provenance: From an old Austrian collection. According to the enclosed "data sheet" purchased from Galerie Kalebjian Frères in Paris in 1940.
