An usual Austrian/Tyrolean (?) carving of Calvary Hill
In a classical glass display case, flanked by partially carved and gilt columns and capitals of the Corinthian order. An extremely intricate crucifixion group, delicately carved in wood in the style of miniature carving. Some parts painted in colour. On a naturalistic pedestal, a Golgatha scene featuring Jesus on the cross and two others being crucified, plus a disciple, presumably John, with Mary, his mother and Maria Magdalena at his feet, together with the gilt Holy Chalice and a skull as a memento mori. Moreover, a Roman soldier on horseback with a lance. A city carved in relief in the background, presumably Golgotha, painted in colour with joining landscape painting in oil on wood, also in different pigments. Signs of age. Minor knocks. Dimensions 36 x 30 x 21 cm.
