BEAUTIFUL EDITION ILLUSTRATED BY LOUIS JOU, IN A SUPERB BINDING WITH MOSAIC BACK, SIGNED F. BROCHON. Penguin Island first appeared in 1908 by Calmann-Levy. After the Penguins are mistakenly baptized on an island in the North Pole, God finally decides to turn the animals into humans. Parodic and tasty novel with many analogies to the history of France, from the Middle Ages to the Dreyfus affair, including Napoleon. Louis JOU (1882-1968) , French of Spanish origin, discovers France for the first time in 1906, there he meets Picasso, Derain, Apollinaire, but also André Suarès who describes him as "the architect of the book". In addition to his production as a painter, he is an illustrator in the press for, among others, L'Assiette au Beurre. Book illustrated with 20 original drypoints, 131 color drawings engraved by the artist. Edition of 500 justified as follows: 10 old Japan, 90 Imperial Japan. 410 copies on Holland pure rag to the form, numbered 91 to 500. Our copy on Holland is justified 491. In addition, 10 copies were printed on Holland reserved for Edouard Champion, marked A to J and 25 hors-commerce on various numbered papers I to XXV. The complete direction of this work has been assumed by the editor personally. The printing and execution were completed on its presses and in its workshops, on December 15, 1926. FRANCE, Anatole.
