[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $300**

Ancient Near East, Anatolia, Early Bronze Age II, ca. 2700 to 2300 BCE. A fine Kusura-type marble idol of an extremely simplified anthropomorphic form. The hand-carved idol is remarkably thin with a trapezoidal body, pointed shoulders, a tapered neck, and a discoid head. Kusura idols come from the village of Kusura in modern-day southeastern Turkey. Their abstract nature suggests that, unlike modern artists, ancient sculptors did not have a penchant for conveying naturalistic human forms and could express themselves in more ambiguous yet profound ways.
