Ancient Amlash Bronze Axe Head

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Amlash culture, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A cast-bronze axe head of a hefty form with a cylindrical socketing shaft, a crescent-shaped back end, and a protruding axe head with a slightly flared head. The entire tool is covered in deep russet-hued patina, and thick layers of mottled brown and green patina have formed over the top in some areas. Size: 4.25" L x 3.1" H (10.8 cm x 7.9 cm).

Condition Report: Nicks and abrasions to socketing shaft, back end, and blade head, with one vertical hairline fissure on socketing shaft, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and wonderful patina throughout.
