Ancient Anatolian Pottery Idol Figure Head - TL Tested
Ancient Near East, Anatolia, modern-day Turkey, Neolithic / Chalcolithic period, ca. 4000 BCE. This is a pottery head of an idol figure, hand built and shaped with an elongated and conical profile. The hooked nose protrudes over an incised mouth, puffy cheeks, and rounded chin that slightly overhangs the neck. The brow tapers upward to the headdress or coiffure, and to the sides are shallow indentations as slit-form eyes. Idols of this characteristically abstract form are enigmatic pieces of the ancient past that may represent deities, venerated fertility idols, or ancestral figures. Size: 1.25" W x 3.35" H (3.2 cm x 8.5 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report is available for purchase. Please inquire.

Condition Report: Fragment of a larger piece as shown. Chips and losses to front of head, especially above nose. Surface abrasions and chips throughout. Softening of finer details but overall form including nose and mouth are preserved. TL test hole on base of neck.
