LOT 0202

Ancient Chilean Wood Standing Figure

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $600**

Pre-Columbian, Chile, Atacama Desert, ca. 1000 BCE. A rare, hand-carved wooden figurine of an abstract anthropomorphic form with delineated legs, attenuated arms held tightly against the rectangular torso, and sloping shoulders. The head displays recessed coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a slender nose with drilled nostrils, wide cheeks, and a gaping mouth, all beneath a rounded top. Wooden figures like this, while exceedingly rare, are able to survive the harsh climate of the Atacama Desert due to the stark lack of humidity (it has been deemed the "driest place in the world"). Size: 1.3" W x 3.625" H (3.3 cm x 9.2 cm); 4.375" H (11.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

#148252
Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to limbs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details, and minor insect damage. Light earthen deposits and patina throughout.
