Ming Dynasty Pottery Equestrian Figure on Horse - Mastery of Ancient Chinese Potters! \r

Circa 14th-17th century AD\r
Finely detailed glazed pottery figure of an equestrian figure sitting on horseback. The horse assumes a standing pose, positioned on a rectangular-shaped base integrated with the animal. The horse features a neat mane, large eyes, and an open-mouthed expression resembling a grimace, complemented by a bridle, harness, black-painted hooves, and a tail gracefully wrapped around its hindleg. In the saddle sits an upright equestrian adorned in a long robe and a glazed jacket. The figure with a removable head, wears a hat and reveals detailed facial features, including narrow eyes, a prominent nose, and small lips highlighted in red. The unglazed areas are meticulously covered with pigmented colours. \r
Mingqi were burial goods crafted to accompany the deceased in the afterlife. Such artefacts, including this finely detailed figure, symbolized protection and served as a tangible connection to earthly life in the spiritual realm. \r
