Circa 14th-17th century AD
A meticulously crafted glazed pottery statue portraying an anthropomorphic figure with an animal head. The figure is attired in a vibrant, long dress adorned with wide sleeves, while the hands are elegantly folded in front of the chest. The edges of the attire are accentuated with green and yellow glaze, while the remaining portions are adorned with dark pigments.
This interesting zodiac figure comes from a series of twelve figures, each representing a different animal. The Chinese zodiac is a 12 years cycle of 12 signs. Each year is represented by an animal: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. According to the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.
