Tang Dynasty Pottery Dancing Lady - with Thermoluminescence Test!

Circa 9th century AD
This pottery figure of a dancing lady stands in a dynamic pose with both hands raised, dressed in a long flaring robe with voluminous sleeves. Her round head, painted white with red lips, features small eyes and thin brows accentuated in black pigment. Her black hair pulled into a top bun. Together with an original thermoluminescence test result #04AG81223, dated December 18, 2023, from "Laboratory Kotalla" Haigerloch, Germany, stating that this figure is from the Tang Dynasty period.
Dance played a central role in Tang Dynasty society, serving as a form of entertainment, religious expression, and social communication. Tang Dynasty dancers were highly skilled performers who entertained the imperial court, nobility, and common people alike with their graceful movements and elaborate costumes. These dances were often accompanied by music played on traditional Chinese instruments such as the pipa, guzheng, and dizi.
