Ancient Egypt, Greco–Roman Period Terracotta representing Cybele - 11 cm (No Reserve Price)

[ translate ]

Terracotta figurine representing the Phrygian goddess Cybele, the nourishing mother in Antiquity with her very characteristic headdress, or an archaic deity of the Minoan, or even Mycenaean, religion.
She is seated on a throne and holds in her left hand a phiale, a Persian Achaemenid cup that the ancient Greeks used for rituals. It is possible that she originally held a tympanon, a musical instrument from the zither family.
This piece could have been produced in Egypt during the Roman period, or even in an earlier period, a few centuries BC.
I bought it 30 years ago from an antique dealer in Lille, France.
