Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Faience ushabti for prince Khaemwaset, 15,8 cm. Exhibited

This character is a priest Sem of the temple of Ptah, as shown in its inscription: "May the Osiris Sem, Khaemwaset, be enlightened, just voice. Khaemwaset was the fourth son of Ramses II, a great pharaoh, so he was a prince. Mariette thought she found his tomb in the Serapeum at Saqqara because of an inscription that read: 'Khaemwaset son of Rameses and builder of the Serapeum', although he was probably an Apis bull assimilated to the prince. This is a beautiful and very important typological example of the ushebtis of the New Kingdom, in a beautiful shade of white. Provenance: Private collection of Dr. L.
