Horus under the features of Bes wearing the Hedjet crown >- Very rare -< Ancient Egyptian Late Period or Ptolemaic Period, c. 664 - 31 BC Bronze Height 30 mm CONDITION: Good Condition. Part of the baton is missing. PROVENANCE: Private collection Joseph Laissus (1900-1969) , professor of metallography and president of the Jules Verne company. DOCUMENTS: Provided of export license issued by the Ministy of Culture. DESCRIPTION: Curious example of syncretism between the deity Horus, warrior, and Bes, protector. It is a clear example of the syncretism that occurred at the end of the Late Period. Syncretism is a term used in cultural anthropology and comparative religion studies to refer to the hybridization or amalgamation of two or more cultural traditions. It is commonly understood that these unions are not substantially consistent. It is also used in allusion to culture or religion to highlight its character of fusion and assimilation of different elements. For the ancient Egyptians amulets were symbolic objects that conferred power or protection against a world of chaos and also during their journey to the Other World. Many of these amulets were small in size, so that they could be worn during the lifetime in a collar, or so that after death they could be placed among the bindings of the mummy. The use of amulets is well documented in the Pre-Dynastic Period. Inscribed lists of them have been found in the Temple of Dendera and in the so-named Papyrus Mc. Gregor, where 75 different models of amulets with their form, function and meaning are cited. Through the use of the word (very important for the ancient Egyptians) and the correct rituals, these objects received magic powers so that they could carry out the function of protection of those who wore them. Notes: - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union) . - The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki.
