Ancient Egyptian Bronze LARGE HARPOCRATES - 20.8×6×8 cm - (1)

A very large and rare egyptian solid bronze statuette of Harpocrates depicted nude and standing with a decidedly corpulent body, with his left leg advanced, holding his right forefinger to his mouth, his right hand holding a bird. He is wearing a necklace and the double crown with uraeus, the missing side-lock of youth cast separately. Incised lotus or papyrus flowers and petal-shaped ornaments behind. Bronze with dark and light green patina | Egypt. Late Period. 664-332 B. C. Condition: Restoration over fracture line on right knee. Some surface wear on the left side of the face. Otherwise excellent condition. Exhibited: D. Galloy, A. James-Sarazin, C. Besson, F. Comte, "Curiosités Un certain goût pour l ailleurs, Angers, Musées d Angers, Tourcoing" . Editions Invenit, 2015. Provenance: Acquired at French Auction House in October 2018. Julien Bessonneau collection (1842-1916) ; acquired by inheritance by previous owner.
