Ancient Egyptian Faience Ushabti

Circa 664-332 BC - Late Period
This glazed composition ushabti is characterized by its typical mummiform representation, featuring a columnar body with a flaring base and hands held on the chest. The figurine is adorned with a tripartite wig and displays a nicely detailed face adorned with false beard.
The ushabtis' inclusion in tombs was associated with the concept of the "Field of Reeds," an idealized afterlife in Egyptian mythology. The figurines were expected to cultivate the land, ensuring a bountiful harvest for the deceased. The ushabtis' mummiform representation symbolized their role as substitutes for the deceased, ready to fulfil their duties in the eternal realm.

Dimensions: 135mm x 35mm; weight 80g
Provenance: Private UK Ancient Art Collection formerly acquired on the UK, European, and USA Art Markets from pre-1960s Collections.
