Ancient Egyptian Limestone and pigments Important Canopic Jar Lid of Imsety. Very Fine quality. 12,5 cm H.

Egyptian limestone canopic jar lid with the human head of Imsety, son of Horus. Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty, ca. 2000-1800 B. C. Very fine example beautifully carved. He is wearing a tripartite wig, leaving the ears exposed, and has a short beard. The eyes and eyebrows are executed in fine relief. Much of the original polychromy is preserved. The short beard and the wig are outlined in light blue, the eyes and eyebrows outlined in black. The irises of the eyes are marked in red. The face and ears are painted yellow. Dimensions: 12,50 x 13,50 cm. Condition Report: Intact. Original condition. Exceptionally well preserved, including much of the original polychromy; just a few minor chips; a label from a previous collection and three small synthetic supports underneath. Provenance: Private Collection - Barcelona. Acquired at a D&V Gallery, Brussels, Belgium. Old belgian collection, formed before 1970. Documents: Includes Art Loss Register certificate. This is the exceptionally well preserved cover of a canopic jar, made of limestone and dating to the Middle Kingdom. The cover has the form of a human head, probably depicting the god Imsety. He is wearing a tripartite wig, leaving the ears exposed, and has a short beard. The eyes and eyebrows are executed in fine relief. Much of the original polychromy is preserved. The short beard was outlined in black, as were the eyes and eyebrows. The corners of the eyes were marked in red.
