Vase Jar Ancient Egypt Predynastic Period, 3100-3000 BC Pottery Height 21. 8 cm PROVENANCE: Private collection of Professor Dr. Günther Marschall (1913 - 1997) , Hamburg, Germany. CONDITION: Intact. DOCUMENT: - Attach old photograph where the object appears. - Old purchase invoice dated 11/26/74. DESCRIPTION: With the name of the Predynastic Period of Egypt, the time before the unification of the Nile Valley is known. It corresponds to the Chalcolithic or Copper Age and in it the artistic conventions were established and the political foundations that later structured Pharaonic Egypt were laid. . In Upper Egypt the village of El-Badari became the nucleus of the groups known as Badarienses (4400-3800 BC) , followed by the Amratians or Naqada I, the Gerzeenses or Naqada II (3500- 3200 BC) and the late Gerzeans, called Semanians or Naqada III (3200-3000 BC) . There have been testimonies of all of them: ceramics and ornamental objects, as well as tools for hunting, fishing and agriculture, although this was less advanced than in the Delta. With respect to the previous Badarian culture, in Nagada I social stratification appears, an improved craftsmanship and new artistic forms, in addition to spreading further south. The name was given by Werner Kaiser and comes from the city of Naqada, located on the banks of the Nile, 25 kilometers north of Luxor. Almost all the existing material culture of these formative periods has been found in burials, which have similar characteristics: a hole in the desert, where the dead was deposited in a fetal position, the desert itself mummified it, preserving it for the eternity. The trousseau was placed around it, consisting mainly of: jewelry items, glasses like this one, both in terracotta and stone, cosmetic palettes, knives and other flint utensils. Although it is a formative period, true works of art are made, and it is the moment of splendor of ceramic vessels as well as the multitude of shapes and types in stone vessels. Today one of these burials can be seen in the British Museum. Notes: The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. The piece includes authenticity certificate. The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union) - If the piece is destined outside the European Union a substitution of the export permit should be requested. This process could take between 1 and 2 months.
