Ancient Egyptian Terracotta Shabti for The high priest of Thot at Hermopolis Magna, Thutmose - 17×4.8×4.8 cm

A large Egyptian terracotta shabti of high quality, for the high priest of Thot at Hermopolis Magna, Thutmose. He is shown mummiform with only his hands, head and feet protruding, wearing the tripartide wig with vivid details painted in black and red. The figure holds the usual agricultural implements in his hands, hoe and flail, and carries a seed bag on his back. He also wears a broad collar, consisting of several layers or strings. The text on the shabti informs us about the titles and name of the owner. The column of hieroglyphs painted in black on the front reads: s. HD Wsir wr-djw DHwtj-ms m. Aa-xrw meaning: “The illuminated one, the Osiris, the great one of five, Thutmose, justified. ” or “Illuminating of Osiris, the great one of five, Thutmose, justified. ” Several shabtis dating to the 19th dynasty are known which belong to one or more high priests of Thot, called Thutmose. However, the title wr-djw ‘great one of five’ designates only the high priest of Thot at Hermopolis Magna. Consequently, the owner was most probably buried at Tuna el-Gebel, the necropolis of Hermopolis Magna. J.
