LOT 82025267

Ancient Egyptian Wood Shabti - 18 cm

[ translate ]

Very interesting Ushabti in wood, End of Middle Kingdom -Beginning of New Kingdom Period (1550-1800 BC) . The bottom of the statue is burnt: grave robbers were to provide themselves with torches. They undoubtedly
carried them, as well as a rubbing lighter, an instrument that was not lacking in all the dwellings in the village. It must be assumed that, in principle, they did not know what they would find in the tomb, or how many chambers and sarcophagi the hypogeum consisted of. Therefore, if the torches burned out, they used the legs of a chair or bed, the remains of wooden sarcophagi (the cartons did not burn) , or the legs and arms of statues made of wood that had already dried out.

Acquired from a Spanish private collection, F. C. B in the 70's.
