The Lion is resting a paw on an open book with the initials of the Latin phrase "Pax Tibi Marce Evangelista Meus". Obvious and unequivocal reference to Mark the Evangelist corroborated by the presence of a halo on the head of the feline. The tail deliberately points upwards, typical of Venetian representations of the time.
