Oinochoe with Trefoil Mouth - figurative handle - - hellenistic vase - Ancient Greek, Hellenism, 2nd century B. C. Bronze 17,5 cm H. PROVENANCE: Private collection G. D. Paris. Acquired in Boisgirard, 25th June 1996, LOT 65. Ancient French collection, arround 1970. DOCUMENTS: Including export license from the Ministry of Culture in Spain. CONDITION: Good condition, unresrtored see photos. A stunning bronze oinochoe (pouring vessel) with a slightly-concave ring base, a globular body, and a rounded shoulder which gracefully tapers to a short, cylindrical neck. The neck then broadens into a wide trefoil spout with a lipped and flared rim. The sinuous handle is held in place with a lion or feline face and decorated with a female face or mask design just beneath the rim, then arches upwards before trailing downwards to its heart-adorned terminal. Both the handle and body have a rough, age-worn texture, though smooth areas inside areas of the rim as well as the base are still observable. The blue-green patina as well as the deep russet and emerald hued patina make for an incredible surface.
