Ancient Greek Ceramic Lekanis with Female Heads - 10×14×10 cm

The lid decorated with female heads between palmettes. Each head with an ornate sakkos leaving a bun projecting at rear. The women wear a spiked stephane, earrings and necklaces. The lid’s knob with radiating strokes on top. The black-glazed dish has an inset flange to receive the lid and is set on a high hollow foot. Nice example of the type. Added white ‘gilded’ with dilute brown glaze for the details of the headdresses and the jewellery. Provenance: B. Collection, acquired in 1970, Amsterdam, Ex E.
