Ancient Greek Ceramic Oinochoe - 30.5×6.5×6.5 cm

Oinochoe; Canosa, White ceramic. Attached QED thermoluminescence certificate. Dimensions: 30. 5 x 6,5 cm. It comes from an antique Spanish collection, before 1970. Oinochoe or enócoe is a typology of Greek pottery used to remove wine from the crater, where it had been watered, before serving it. It measures between 20 and 40 cm in height, is characterised by having a single handle and is classified according to the shape of the mouth and belly. The most common, type 1, has a trilobed peak, as we see here. In this case it has an ovoid belly, high foot of turned profile, wider towards the base, differentiated, high and narrow, neck, trilobed mouth and stylised bed, in the form of a cane, which rises above the mouth. Piece made in Canosa, located in the north of Italy, the main ceramic production centre of Magna Grecia.
