Pelike depicting Eros. 4th century BC - 32×19×19 cm Pelike from Apulia. 330-320 BC C. Chr. H 31. 8 cm, body ø 19. 2 cm, mouth ø 15. 9 cm, base ø 13. 3 cm. Red figure, white and yellow details. On side A, a floating eros on a standing woman with a box leaning against a pillar and a seated woman with a mirror. On side B, an eros with grapes hands a mirror to a seated person with a rite. Provenance: From the private collection of Munich H. B. , acquired before 1970. There are similarities to the late painters of Darius's underworld workshop, such as the painter Forli. There is a seal with a federal eagle on the bottom. From the surrounding writing it can be clearly deciphered: ZZ. I Munich [. . .] . Red-figure Peliké from Apulia. 330-320 BC On the side A floating Eros above a woman standing with a box leaning against a pillar and a seated woman with a mirror. On side B an Eros with a vine reaching a mirror to a seated woman with rhyton. Perhaps from the late Darío-Underworld Workshop, compare, for example, works by the painter Forli. Small spots on the lip are missing or retouched, otherwise intact with sintering. Condition: Small imperfections and additions to the lip, otherwise intact with sintering.
