Ancient Greek, Classical Period Clay, Terracotta Oil lamp - 2.4 cm

Large ancient Greek deck rim or stick lamp from the 5th century BC: oil lamp with a separately offset, slightly curved and inward-facing lip. The thick snout is attached to the front. The lamp base rises conically in the middle to form a tube that runs upwards, through which the lamp could be attached to a rod. The interior, the horizontal lip and the muzzle were covered with black glossy clay, most of which has been lost.

Acquired in 2024 from the German art trade (Gerhard Hirsch Successor, Munich) . Previously in a private collection in Munich since 1976.
