Ancient Greek, Hellenistic Terracotta Guttus - Medusa 3rd - 2nd BC (with documents from expert G. Herinek)
Guttus - Medusa, Greek/South Italic.
approx. 3rd - 2nd century BC BC
Location: Formerly southern Italy.
Height: 8. 9 cm, diameter (stand ring) : 6. 15 cmx.
Diameter (without handle loop) : 10. 15 cm.
Comes from a private collection in Vienna, acquired from G. Herinek (1992) .
Comes with original declaration of authenticity, Gerhard Herinek.
Guttus made of black varnished terracotta. On the top in the middle there is a Medusa head as a medallion. Large handle loop and raised funnel-shaped opening. Very decorative notch decoration on the outside.
Completely preserved, without cracks and not glued!
A very similar specimen is illustrated in the book by Ines Jucker, from the antique collection of the Bern Historical Museum. Illustrated on plate 43 under no. 111, described on page 72.
