a) Apulia, Messapian kalathos, approx. 5th / 4th century B C, height 18 cm, Diameter 13 cm, Diameter foot 8 cm Rare lily-shaped vessel on a ring foot. White primer with reddish-brown décor in horizontal striped ribbons. Kalathos (Greek) , the lily-shaped work basket of Greek women. It was used for various types of work. The kalathos had a symbolic meaning at the feasts of Athena, but especially in those of the Demeter as a flower basket of the Persephone; Condition: Composed of several fragments, joined with retouching to the broken edge. No add-ons b) Apulia, Messapian Omphalos bowl, approx. 4th century B C, height 3 cm, Diameter 15 cm Diameter Beige clay, flat round bowl, which is provided with a central hump and served as a sacrificial bowl, decorated with concentric circles in red and brown. The term omphalos is used synonymously from the centre and the navel of the event. Condition: Minimal restoration on the lip, otherwise intact Provenance: 1996 from the German art trade, before that German private collection of the 50/60s. Proof of origin at Catawiki.
