Magna Graecia, southern Italian colonies, Apulian or Campanian, approx. 4th century B C, height 18 cm. in diameter 12 cm. in diameter Base: 7. 5 cm A fine oinochoe (casting vessel) with annular foot, pear-shaped body, rounded shoulder, narrow neck with clover spout and a carrying handle that connects the edge and shoulder. Mostly glazed in black, with orange clay showing except for the bottom of the foot and a band above the foot. A thin strip of dark red pigment wraps around the shoulder. . Condition: Minimal restoration on the lip, otherwise intact Provenance: 1997 from the German art trade, before that German private collection of the 30/50s. Proof of origin at Catawiki.
