Ancient Greek, Magna Graecia Apulian Ceramic Bell Krater with Spanish Import License and TL Test
Beautiful apulian red-figure krater with two side handles. Bell-shaped body, upturned twin loop handles, and flared rim, all upon a concave, tiered, round foot. Decorated with two scenes in front and back framed on top by a branch of myrtle and a band of wavy motifs at the bottom. The two scenes are separated by two large complex palmettes under the handles.
The obverse with a central draped female figure seated on a rock, she wears the saccos hairdress, pearl necklace and bracelets in both wrists. In front and behind her two female figures appear standing, one holding a phiale with her left hand and the other holding a plant ornament with two strips. On the reverse two confronted himation-clad youths mantaining a conversation.
The piece includes Thermoluminescence Test.
Dimensions: 41,00 x 41,00 cm.
Condition: Restored over fracture lines from original fragments ( see pictures) Good overall condition.
Provenance: Acquired to a spanish antiquarian. C. R. Private Collection( Le Cannet, France) . Acquired at Pierre-Eric Becker Gallery ( Cannes, France) in 1997.
