Ancient Greek Pottery Magna Graecia, Apulia. Skyphos decorated with two pretty ladies. 4th century BC. 13,3 cm L. Nice.

Skyphos decorated with two pretty ladies - very nice vessel - CULTURE: Magna Graecia, Apulia. PERIOD: 4th century BC MATERIAL: Pottery DIMENSIONS: 13. 3 cm Large, 5,5 cm Height. PROVENANCE: Collection of Molly Alexander (born Rendell) and her husband Richard Alexander, art dealers in Brighton in the 1960's. Richard worked after World War II as an archeology expert for the Spink and Son house in London. In his private collection until 1970's and inherited from his nephew. CONDITION: Good condition, rejoined of all original big parts. See photos. A skyphos is a two-handled deep wine-cup on a low flanged base or none. The handles may be horizontal ear-shaped thumbholds that project from the rim (in both Corinthian and Athenian shapes) , or they may be loop handles at the rim or that stand away from the lower part of the body. Skyphoi of the type called glaux (owl) have one horizontal and one vertical thumbhold handle. Notes: The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. The seller will take care that any necessary permits, like an export license will be arranged, he will inform the buyer about the status of it if this takes more than a few days. The piece includes authenticity certificate.
