Ancient Greece Mycenaean wheel-thrown pottery stirrup jar of a classic Mycenaean form with a bulbous body, a flat foot, conjoined twin handles, and a tubular side spout with a flared rim. The vessel is hand-painted with concentric bands in a red-orange tan. Dimensions: 10 cm diameter - 9 cm high Timeperiod: ca. 1400-1200 B. C. (Late Helladic IIIB) The period is so named for the palace at Mycenae, famed in Homeric legend as the seat of King Agamemnon. Condition: good, considering it’s age With scattered losses to the painted decoration and several areas of surface pocking Provenance: purchased at a US auction NYC collection; Ex.
