This stemless kylix, characterized by its shallow plate form tapering to a ring base, features horizontal handles positioned on opposite sides of the dish. The tondo is adorned with a concentric circle design.
A kylix is a type of ancient Greek drinking cup characterized by its shallow bowl with a pair of horizontal handles extending from the rim. The name "kylix" is derived from the Greek word "κύλιξ," which means "cup" or "drinking cup. " Kylikes were typically made of clay and were commonly used in ancient Greek symposia, or drinking parties, where guests would recline on couches and engage in conversation, drinking wine from kylikes. The shallow shape of the kylix made it ideal for sipping wine.
