[ translate ]

Ancient Greek silver stater coin with necklace and matching bracelet. Coin is in a 14 karat gold bezel, on a braided link chain (17 inch, Princess length) with lobster clasp. Unknown maker, contemporary. Chain tests as about 80% silver on XRF. Bracelet is made of the same type of chain, with a gold pendant of Pegasus, which tests at approximately 9 Kt. Bracelet will fit approximately 5 1/2" wrist. Some patina on chain. Total weight: 75.1 grams / 48.4 dwt. Coin and necklace includes a Certificate of Authenticity from L. Alexander Wolfe, an authorized Antiquities Dealer in Israel. Certificate number 4429. Coin is ca. mid - late 4th century B.C. The coin is a silver stater from the ancient city of Leukas (Leucas) in Acarnania, in modern day Lefkada, Greece. Leukas was an ancient colony of Corinth, one of the major Ancient Greek city states. The coin appears almost exactly like a Corinthian silver stater, with the winged horse Pegasus on the obverse and the helmeted head of the goddess Athena on the reverse with a small chimaera. The only difference between this coin and a Corinthian stater is the presence of the Lambda mintmark for Leukas in place of the Koppa (Qoppa) mintmark for Corinth. Coin diameter is approximately 20 mm. Coin has some wear to surface, but good details remain, especially on Pegasus's head. F - VF. An excellent opportunity to own a piece of ancient history! Keywords: coinage, collector, ancient, collection, Pegasos, Grecian, artifact
