Ancient Greece, Attic A fantastic black glazed trefoil oinochoe type II. Pear-shaped body on a flat, two-level annular foot. Flat shoulder, cylindrical neck, which is connected to the shoulder by a circle. Elongated handle that runs from the shoulder over the lip and ends in a bulge in the lip, which is shaped like a cloverleaf. Two stains of flawed fired ceramic on the body (one red, one grey) , give the vessel a special charm. Carved letters on the base, which can probably be traced back to the pottery workshop. The vessel is glazed black except for the foot. Condition: Two chips on the foot, one on the lip Chipped paint stains along the handle and lip. A fine crack on the neck. Otherwise intact. Provenance: 1993 from the German art trade, before that, German private collection of the 30s/50s. Proof of origin at Catawiki.
