Ancient Holyland Pottery Trefoil Vessel

[ translate ]

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Judea, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 2100 to 1600 BCE. A hand-built pottery pouring vessel exhibiting an inverted piriform body with a conical base, swollen shoulders beneath a gently corseted neck, and a thick strap handle on the verso. The trefoil-style pouring spout enabled the pourer to pour the vessel's contents without splashing any out of the vessel unintentionally. Beige-hued engobe covers the red-hued pottery beneath, and the stone-burnished surfaces are smooth to the touch. Size: 2.625" W x 6.8" H (6.7 cm x 17.3 cm); 7.25" H (18.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-prominent D.K. collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 2000s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.
