Ancient Late Roman Glass Weight with the Monogram of the Emperor Basiliscus (Flavius Basiliscus Augustus) member of the Leo I dinasty as a brother of his wife Aelia Verina. An extremely rare emperor ruled only an year, started with a military career and known from his unsuccsessfull campaign against the Vandals in the north Africa 468 AD but also with his attempts to incline the ortodox religion ''stream'' out from it Chalcedonian doctrine to the Miaphysites (Monophisical streem inclined into Coptic and Armenian churches) which brought him a lot of enemies and was killed in 476 AD. Classical glass weight which is much rarer in the usage than the bronze weights in antiquity with a typical Monograms with the key letters of the name of the Ruller. (See the Late roman monograms and Late Roman monograms on the late roman coinage) . Unsignificant scratches, otherwise in Good Condition. See Foto. Exceedingly rare. Material: Glass. Date: from 475 to 476 AD. Size: 2,4cm. Item No. G36 Purchased by the current owner in 2011 in Austria, Wien from Collector fair. Collected Since: 1980's.
