Ancient Near Eastern Terracotta Ram

[ translate ]

Ancient Near East, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A really delightful ceramic ram, hand-modeled into a sturdy form with four nub-like legs, a thick body, and a proud head atop a muscular neck. The texture of the fleece is amazing! The curved horns emphasize the symbolism of the ram - virility and strength. This votive figure may have been kept in a home altar or given as an offering at a local temple. Size: 3.75" W x 3.2" H (9.5 cm x 8.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities; ex-Tepper Gallery, late 1990s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
