Head of biga or quadriga; Rome; I-II centuries A. D. Bronze. Dimensions: 4 x 4,5 x 4,5 cm; 14 x 9 x 9 cm (base) . Spanish collection, before 1960, acquired in 2019. Biga or quadriga head made of bronze with a round opening on the back for its support in a cylindrical element. Thus being a piece conceived for the decoration of a front, through the making in a round bulk of a human head in the centre, of elaborate hairstyle and with open eyes and an expressive face. Such decorative pieces were common in the Roman Empire, demonstrating their quality as bronze makers. Provenance: The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally.
