Ancient Roman Bronze Elegant Torque (Neck Bracelet) with a terminal shaped as a Laurel Leaf. Rare and probably used in parades as at the ancient world the laurel leaf/wreath was already the symbol of victory (Goddess Nike) . The torque was a characteristic male neck ornament of such peoples as the ancient Teutons, Gauls, and Britons. The Romans, when they invaded Britain, were so intrigued with the torques that they awarded them to their soldiers for brave acts. Large and slightly wavy, areas of lack of the smooth surface, otherwise very well preserved with a lovely ''emerald'' green patina. rare type and in this grade of preservation! Size: 17,1cm. Item No. R29 Purchased by the current owner in 2014 in Austria, Wien from Collector fair. Collected Since: 1960's. Previous owners history: Old Austrian Private Collection.
