Roman bronze Gladiator fibula depicting a standing 'Secutor', wearing helmet and holding large shield and sword. The secutor ("follower" or "chaser") was armed similarly to the Murmillo gladiator, protected by a heavy shield. He carried a short sword, a gladius or a dagger and was specially trained to fight a retiarius, a type of lightly armoured gladiator armed with a trident and net. Size: 41,6 x 18,8 mm Condition: good solid condition, complete with pin (partly moveabe) and catchplate. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images. Certificate of Authenticity available upon request (pdf-format) . Purchased by the current owner from a private Dutch collection of LVR in 2020.
