Ancient Roman Cornelian and gold Pendant with Cornelian Intaglio with Hybrid Creature

Oval red intaglio engraved with a hybrid creature depicted in profile facing left, the body of a rooster and the head of a helmeted warrior. It carries a shield and a spear. Set in gold pendant with fine beading pattern frame and wide ridged suspension loop. Similar hybrid creatures in ancient mythology were known as sirens, harpies, sphinxes and hippalectryon.
