A ROMAN GILT BRONZE CROSSBOW FIBULA
DESCRIPTION:
Roman / 3rd-4th cent. A. D. / Bronze, Gold / L = 7. 1 cm (2 51/64 in)
Semi-circular bow with trapezoid cross-section, hexagonally hinge tube and moulded onion knobs. Pin shaft with lateral moulding and openwork decoration. Riha Group 6 Type 6. 5 (1496) .
CONDITION:
Fibula bow, pin catch and pin intact; one onion knob, probably from another fibula, attached. Gilding partially abraded.
PROVENANCE:
Swiss priv. coll. R. Bonsera, Basel, since 2005.
Purchased on the Swiss art market, Basel.
