[ translate ]

Ointment with handles. Roman Empire, 2nd-3rd century AD. Dimensions: 12. 3 x 5,2 cm. It has restoration in handles. Glass was a favourite material for Greeks and Romans, who provided it through trade with Egyptians and Phoenicians. Since the beginning of the Roman Empire, glass was manufactured both in the metropolis and outside of it, giving it the same applications as the Egyptians and perfecting the shapes of its vessels, which are more varied and elegant. Most of the Roman graves contain ointments, flasks and glass bottles, covered with iridescence due to the action of humidity and air, which were used to contain oils or perfumes. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner in 2017 in Italy from a private collector (C. R. C.) , owned before 70's. The supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days. Important: For destinations out of Spanish territory all our objects will be shipped after obtaining CERTIFICATE OF EXPORTATION by Ministry of Culture of Spain. We inform our clients that it may take between 4-8 weeks.
