Magnificent large earthenware Roman amphora, standing in a small stand. The amphora has a rare model, with a very nice detailing! It concerns a long-shaped narrow round amphora with two small round handles and at the top an opening with a diameter of 11 cm. There are also several decorations (horizontal lines) around. These particular amphorae were used as a means of transport for wine. The item is intact, rare and in good condition. Over the centuries there have been some minor damage and cracks in the pottery, see the extensive photo collection for your own quality impression. Dimensions: about 74. 5 cm high, 27 cm wide (from ear to ear) , 21 cm wide (vase itself) and the spout has a diameter of 11 cm. Weight approx. 8 kilograms. Origin information: Purchased in 2021 from P. W. who acquired the item by inheritance. Previous provenance: from the old Dutch private collection of Mr. B, who legally acquired the item in 1994. The amphora was submitted for auction by him in March 2018 at an auction of Catawiki under number: 16769257.
