Ancient Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp Showing an Eagle
This is a fine Roman moulded terracotta oil lamp, coming from the Central Mediterranean area. The discus has a filling hole and shows the image of a legionary eagle, with outspread wings closed and its head turned to the left. On the base is a workshop / maker’s mark, in form of a sandal or foot print (see last picture) . Date: Roman, ca. 100 - 200 A. D.
