Ancient Silk Road and Near Eastern Mixed Stone 'Eye Motif' Amulet Group, 21CD

[ translate ]

This group of four hand carved pendant beads, each pierced for suspension, presents varied forms in white and cream coloured stone with etched brownish decoration, comprising a standing pedestal amulet carved with paired round eye motifs, two segmented elongated pendants, and a double ended barrel amulet carved with a central diamond lattice. Across ancient Near Eastern and Silk Road traditions the paired eye motifs warded off the evil eye and hostile forces, the segmented stacked form invoked ritual protection and fertility, and the diamond lattice served as a protective net symbolising safe passage and good fortune, all strung on necklaces or belts as talismans. The materials show a varied visual palette of white with brown etched bands and paired circles, pale cream, pale translucent white, and cream with brown incised lattice and banding, with weathered surfaces carrying earthy encrustation, fine pitting, worn polish and scattered speckles consistent with long burial and use. The carving combines rounded volumetric shaping with incised lines defining segments, lattice and eye motifs, the standing amulet retains a dark capped top, each piece carries drilled suspension holes, and the surfaces show soft aged wear. Dimensions: 4.5 cm x 1.5 cm; total 4 pieces.

Condition
All lots offered are sourced from a private estate and sold "as is, where is". Age-related wear, restoration, losses and imperfections are normal attributes of antique works of art. It is the sole responsibility of the bidder to assess and verify the actual age and authenticity of each lot. The absence of a reference to a defect does not imply the lot is free from damage or restoration. The auctioneer makes no warranty as to condition, age or authenticity of any lot.
