Ancient Silk Road & Near Eastern Stone Feline Amulet and Relief Group, 16CD
This assemblage of four drilled stone talismans features three recumbent feline guardian amulets in contrasting pale cream and dark speckled stone, plus two rectangular zoomorphic relief pendants with integrated suspension lugs. Each piece is carved in the regional stylised folk idiom, with incised linework defining facial features, manes and fur patterning. Felines were among the most potent apotropaic symbols in this cultural sphere, associated with power, watchfulness and warding off evil spirits. The relief plaques depict stylised beasts, functioning both as wearable adornment and protective seals/pendants. Surfaces exhibit burial patina, mineral encrustation and soft wear from long interment. All are perforated for cord suspension. Dimensions: 7 cm x 4 cm; total 4 pieces.
