LOT 0006

Ancient Sui/Tang Figure of an Official c600 to 907 AD

[ translate ]

A molded figure of a court official that is so very old and was once buried. It’s like stepping back into an ancient time.

A low fired buff colored molded ceramic in the shape of an official. He has a hole in his right hand and would have been holding an article. He is wearing a hat with strings down the back and a robe that is tied at the waist. He still has some black pigment at the back of his hat. He is covered in a thin yellowish glaze. His hollow body fits over a much more recent black lacquered wood stand made to hold him upright.
The inside of the piece still has remnants of dirt from being buried. There are mold lines down his sides.

MEASUREMENTS
8 ¾” (22.2 cm) tall x 3” (7.6 cm) wide x 2 ½” (6.4 cm) deep. Weighs 11.9 oz (320 g)

CONDITION

There are small glaze losses at the fingers, and on his hat. There is a shallow chip by his foot at the front. The figure is missing whatever was to be inserted in the hole in the hand. For being so old, he looks very complete.

Be the first person on your block to own something so old from the Tang dynasty. He is a small sculpture capturing the essence of someone from the Tang Dynasty.
